Construction Safety & Health Officer (CSHO) [26 Feb - 02 Mac 2018]

25 Points

The Malaysian Construction Industry has a poor health and safety record. According to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, there were 3,150 accidents and 77 deaths reported in year 2005 alone. Even though the number of accidents and deaths has declined compared to the previous years, the statistics are still amongst the highest compared to the other sectors in the economy.

The construction industry employs more than 770,000 workers and has long been considered as difficult, dangerous and dirty occupation due to the high incidence of accidents, injuries and deaths. One of the major causes identified is the lack of appropriate knowledge and skills of those assigned with responsibilities for safety and health. Existing competency based programme for safety and health officers is generic in nature. Those qualified can practice in any industry they preferred.

Unfortunately, they were not equipped with adequate knowledge and skill to practice effectively in high risk works such as construction. This shortcoming could be one of the major contributors to poor safety and health records in the construction industry.

As such CIDB with cooperation of industry players have developed course aimed at improving the quality of safety and health in construction sites known as the construction safety & health officers training programme. The curriculum and trining modules were developed to equip the safety & health officers with appropriate knowledge and skill that will enable them to perform effectively in the construction environment.

To train and produce competent construction safety and health officer of high caliber which in turn will assist the industry in transforming construction sites as a safer and better place to work in.

Content of program includes discussion on OSH legislation, management and planning system and accident & investigation process.

The class is open to public. Certificate of attendance will be given to all participants. Certificate of proficiency or achievement will be accorded upon successfull assessment.
